The Right to Information Act, 2005 is an important law that empowers every citizen of India to access information from government departments and public sector institutions. The main objective of this Act is to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

Under this Act, citizens can request information such as records, reports, and agreements. The concerned authorities are required to provide the information within 30 days of submitting the application.

Public Information Officers (PIO) and Assistant Public Information Officers (APIO) are appointed in each department. The Act also provides a mechanism for appeal if the required information is not provided.

In short, the Right to Information Act strengthens citizens’ rights and promotes good governance.
