Topography and Environmental Features

1. Topography

The area under Meenadom Grama Panchayat is characterized by hills and valleys. Laterite soil is predominantly found in this region. There are no rivers flowing within the Panchayat limits. Therefore, agriculture and irrigation have traditionally depended on the local streams.

Major Water Sources (Streams)

• Valiyathodu: Originates in Ward 7 and flows through Wards 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 12, and 13.
• Southern Boundary Stream: Flows along the southern boundary of Wards 9 and 10, from Kuttikkal to Valiyaparambu.
• Northwestern Boundary Stream: Extends along the northwestern boundary of Ward 1, from Aarattuchira to Narakathodu.
• Cheruthodu: Originates from the Parakkavu area, passes through Ward 8 via Kallurppady and Nedumpoyka, crosses the Third Mile area, and joins the Valiyathodu at Pallippad.

During the rainy season, water from the hilly regions flows as small channels into these streams. Although the area is generally fertile, these streams dry up completely during the summer season. As a result, residents primarily depend on wells for irrigation during the summer months.

2. Land Use

Most of the available land in the Panchayat is utilized for agricultural purposes, with rubber cultivation being the most dominant.
